When was the last time you had to seriously think about which gelato flavour to pick? In the Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya area and beyond, gelaterias are getting a little more creative with their scoops, from brown butter and tea-infused flavours to cendol, kaya toast and combinations you probably wouldn’t think to pair yourself.
These 7 gelato shops are where choosing your scoop is half the fun. Some have a signature flavour worth coming back for, some keep things interesting with rotating small-batch creations, and others aren’t afraid to get experimental with ingredients and textures.
So whether you’re after something familiar or ready to try a flavour that makes you go “wait, that’s gelato?”, these spots are worth adding to your dessert trail!
TUG Gelato @ Steppes, Mont Kiara

TUG 3.0, the newest TUG Gelato outlet at Steppes Mont Kiara, is a good reminder that you probably shouldn’t judge a gelato flavour by its name alone. Brown Butter sounds simple enough, but the caramelised butter gives it a rich, buttery depth that tastes remarkably true to the real thing. Osmanthus Strawberry Sorbet goes in a completely different direction, with a tangy, floral freshness, while 500 Days Of Summer layers brown butter, hazelnut paste and lemon Basque cheesecake into one rather fun scoop.
You can also get your gelato wrapped in their newly refined mochi, now softer, chewier and stretchier. And while you’re there, save room for the Molten Cheesetart, with its creamy cheese filling, crackly brûléed top and seriously buttery tart crust!
Opening Hours: Daily, 11 AM – 11 PM [Mont Kiara outlet only]
Address: LG3-02-1 & LG3-02-2, Steppes, 32 Jalan Kiara 3, Mont Kiara, 51200 Kuala Lumpur

Gelato A Lago
A little bit of Italy by Putrajaya Lake? Gelato A Lago certainly makes a convincing case. Pistachio is the bestseller, and it’s easy to see why, with a nutty flavour and just the right amount of sweetness. Blue Pea is another one to try, combining butterfly pea and rose for a subtle floral note that works surprisingly well with its creamy base.
Then there’s the Affogato, where you can choose between vanilla or pistachio gelato before it’s topped with a chocolaty Brazilian-Ethiopian coffee blend. Since everything is made in small batches, the flavours rotate quite often, so you might find yourself picking from a completely different line-up on your next visit.
Opening Hours: Tuesdays – Fridays, 10 AM – 10 PM | Saturdays – Sundays, 9 AM – 10 PM | Closed on Mondays
Address: R6, Promenade Floor, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Jalan Venna P5/2, Presint 5, 62200 Putrajaya

At aScoopOf, the question isn’t really “vanilla or chocolate?” when the flavour board gets this interesting. This Subang spot likes to pair familiar ingredients in unexpected ways, from Tangerine Peel + Pineapple and Tie Kwan Yin + Cacao Nibs to Spiced Coffee and Coconut Gula Melaka. Even the classics get a little twist, with Apam Balik Swirls and Triple Chocolate among the options. The sorbets are worth exploring too, especially the Lychee + Thyme, which finishes with a subtle herbal note.
Set beside the leafy Parc Subang Ria, you can enjoy your scoop in a handmade cone or waffle while soaking up the park views. There are even pet-friendly gelato options for your furry sidekick!
Opening Hours: Mondays – Thursdays, 12 PM – 7 PM | Fridays, 12 PM – 8 PM | Saturdays – Sundays, 11 AM – 8 PM

Wild Sheep Home
Wild Sheep Home is where gelato gets a little more experimental, particularly if tea, florals and herbs are your kind of flavours. Their small-batch selection includes Chrysanthemum, Twinings Earl Grey, Oolong Milk Tea and Mango Basil, each bringing something different to the table without straying too far from the ingredients themselves.
Bitter Caramel is the one that keeps earning its place as a favourite, balancing deep caramelised sweetness with a pleasant bittersweet edge. And every once in a while, they’ll bring out something wonderfully unexpected, like their coriander gelato. What started as a side project to pair with their soufflé has since grown into a proper gelato playground, with even more experimental scoops making appearances along the way.
Opening Hours: Sundays – Fridays, 11 AM – 6 PM | Saturdays, 11 AM – 10:30 PM
Address: 605, Jalan 17/12, Seksyen 17, 46400 Petaling Jaya

OrGelato

OrGelato clearly isn’t afraid to have a little fun with gelato. Earl Grey Raspberry, OG Pistachio and Yuzu Strawberry are among the flavours to look out for, while the more adventurous side of the menu might see you picking up something like Salted Kaya Toast. This limited-time Malaysian breakfast-inspired scoop even comes with toast pieces and tiny “egg” meringues for the full kaya toast experience.
There are caffeinated options too, including Matcha made with Marukyu Koyamaen and S.O.E. Coffee with single-origin espresso. And with the Mid-Autumn Festival around the corner, OrGelato is also bringing out gelato mooncakes in Pistachio Mango, Hojicha Lemon, Chrysanthemum Lychee and Oolong Strawberry.

Dimpled

Dimpled is a fun one to keep on your radar because the flavour board is never quite the same. Pistachio stays put as the best seller, made with nuts sourced directly from Sicily for a sweet, distinctly nutty scoop, while the remaining flavours rotate regularly. Honey Milk, Sea Salt Sakura and Espresso Stracciatella are some of the ones that have stood out, balancing creamy, floral and coffee-forward notes in very different ways.
And since it’s currently Merdeka month, Dimpled is giving some classic Malaysian favourites the gelato treatment too! Their Cendol Gula Melaka combines coconut-based gelato with cendol jelly and gula Melaka, while the Seri Muka is seri muka-flavoured gelato that comes topped with homemade kuih seri muka!
Opening Hours:
- Mondays, Wednesdays – Thursdays, 1 PM – 10:30 PM
- Fridays, 1 PM – 11 PM

Paolo Paolo Gelato

Paolo Paolo Gelato takes the idea of a “signature flavour” pretty seriously, except here, the inspiration often starts with a memory. This Malaysian gelateria has created more than 200 flavours over the years, ranging from familiar favourites like Lemon Mascarpone and Pistachio to bolder experiments such as Black Garlic Stracciatella and Fish Sauce Caramel. One little detail we love is the extra dollop of gelato on top of every order, which lets you sneak in a second flavour without committing to another full scoop.
Their gelato is handcrafted daily too, giving each scoop a smooth, dense texture that makes even the more unusual flavours easy to enjoy. And yes, despite the Italian-sounding name, Paolo Paolo is proudly homegrown, with its name actually inspired by the founder’s British Shorthair cat!
Opening Hours: Daily, 1 PM – 10 PM [Taman Paramount outlet only]
Address: 33, Jalan 20/13, Taman Paramount, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
